President Marcos Jr. Launches "One RFID, All Tollways" for Nationwide Expressway Interoperability
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. officially launched the "One RFID, All Tollways" interoperability project, aimed at unifying RFID systems across the country’s expressways including SLEX, NLEX, and other toll networks. This initiative is set to streamline toll collection, making it faster, simpler, and compatible nationwide.
In his statement during the launch, President Marcos emphasized the need for efficiency, unity, and innovation in the country's mobility network. He said, \"This project embodies our commitment to reliable connectivity and tireless innovation. By unifying RFID systems, we are not only enhancing convenience for motorists but also reinforcing our vision of a united and modern transport infrastructure. One RFID, one nation on the move.\"
The project was developed through close coordination between the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB), and various private tollway concessionaires. This collaboration ensures that the technical standards and operational protocols are harmonized across all toll systems, eliminating the need for multiple RFID stickers and payment methods.
According to DOTr officials, the unified RFID system will significantly reduce congestion at toll plazas, accelerating throughput and reducing travel time. Motorists will only need a single RFID sticker for seamless travel across multiple expressways, addressing long-standing inefficiencies caused by fragmented toll collection systems.
The initiative aligns with the Marcos administration's broader infrastructure agenda under the Bagong Pilipinas program, which prioritizes digital and connected infrastructure to support a growing economy and population. By integrating intelligent transport systems such as interoperable RFID, the government aims to modernize the country’s transport landscape, foster economic growth, and improve quality of life.
The TRB stated that this project marks a major milestone in the country’s journey toward a fully digital toll collection ecosystem and underscores the government’s resolve to pursue reforms that leverage technology for public service.
Presidential spokespersons reiterated that the administration remains committed to transforming the Philippines into a smart and connected nation, with projects like One RFID serving as tangible proof of its resolve.
The "One RFID, All Tollways" interoperability project is expected to be fully operational nationwide in the coming months, benefiting millions of daily expressway users and supporting the seamless movement of goods and people across the archipelago.
