Faith and Divine Providence: Finding Strength in Times of Trial
Crispin Abella
Faith remains a cornerstone of spiritual resilience, especially during our most challenging and discouraging times. Believers are reminded that God, as both Creator and loving Father, is always present to provide support, even if His methods differ from our desires. This assurance is exemplified in the biblical account of a centurion pleading with Christ to heal his paralyzed servant. When Christ offered to visit the centurion’s home, the soldier exhibited profound faith, stating, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed. For I too am a man subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, 'Go,' and he goes; and to another, 'Come here,' and he comes; and to my slave, 'Do this,' and he does it." As a result, his servant was healed through faith alone.
This narrative illustrates the power of steadfast, deep faith in addressing even seemingly impossible problems. Believers are encouraged to seek God’s help and surrender themselves to His will, confident that He never abandons His children. As our Creator, God imbues life itself within us, sharing His nature and ensuring His presence is ever near.
Living in alignment with God’s will means recognizing ourselves as stewards rather than owners of our lives; our duty is to manage them responsibly, trusting that God, as the sovereign owner, will provide what is necessary. Through His omnipotence, God offers solutions, relief from trials, and certainty of ultimate victory when faith endures.
Amid limitations and feelings of helplessness, believers are urged not only to confront these moments with readiness but also to seek deeper meaning and growth through them. After exhausting all possible efforts to resolve difficulties, the call is to trust God’s providential plan and mercy, embracing a spirit of abandonment and faith in His unwavering love.
Ultimately, those who place their confidence in God’s wisdom and compassion can face suffering with resilience, following the example of Christ’s endurance through passion and death. This faith ensures that all adversity will ultimately be transformed for good.
"If we are with God, we can always dominate whatever suffering can come our way in the same manner that Christ absorbed all his passion and death on the cross."
