ICC Arrest Warrant Against Sen. Ronald Dela Rosa Reportedly Issued, Lawyer Advises Caution
Basilia Magsaysay
Former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque announced on Monday that the International Criminal Court (ICC) has already issued an arrest warrant against Senator Ronald Dela Rosa. In a social media statement, Roque cautioned the senator to remain vigilant.
He advised, "Do not get kidnapped. Insist that you have the right to be brought before a Philippine court first." Roque, recognized as one of four Filipino lawyers authorized to practice before the ICC, also urged Dela Rosa to consider seeking refuge with the Supreme Court.
Over the past weekend, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla confirmed the existence of an arrest warrant targeting Dela Rosa and indicated that authorities are closely monitoring his movements. Remulla initially revealed this development last November.
Senator Dela Rosa, who previously served as chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) during the early Duterte administration, faces accusations linked to the administration’s controversial, and deadly, anti-drug campaign.
Requests for comment from the Department of Justice (DOJ) remain unanswered as of this writing.
This report will be updated as new information becomes available.
