Vice Mayor Under Investigation for Alleged Harboring of Fugitive in Quezon City Residence

Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla announced that the vice mayor connected to the residence in Quezon City—where Department of Public Works and Highways engineer Dennis Abagon was apprehended—is currently under investigation. Speaking during an interview on Bilyonaryo News Channel's On Point program, Remulla detailed that the inquiry centers on whether the vice mayor permitted Abagon to use the house as a refuge.
"An investigation is underway to determine if there was a legitimate lease contract. If no formal lease exists or if the contract is found to be falsified, this could constitute harboring a fugitive," Remulla explained. He emphasized that any lease agreement must be notarized to be deemed official.
Remulla further clarified the legal implications, stating, "Regardless of familial or other relationships, anyone knowingly sheltering a fugitive may face criminal charges."
Regarding the two household staff members who were present with Abagon at the time of his arrest, the Secretary confirmed they will face charges for obstruction of justice. "The two house helpers found with him will be charged for obstructing justice," he said. "Meanwhile, the vice mayor remains under investigation for harboring a fugitive."
The Secretary also called on the public to cooperate with law enforcement by reporting sightings of wanted individuals. He expressed confidence that the authorities will successfully apprehend all parties implicated in the flooding control scandal.
