Tropical Depression Verbena Makes Landfall in Surigao del Sur, Set to Impact Visayas and Palawan

Nemesio Gatdula

Tropical Depression Verbena made landfall over Bayabas in Surigao del Sur at approximately 1:30 PM on Monday, November 24, 2025. According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) in their Tropical Cyclone Bulletin No. 5, areas under Wind Signal No. 1 are anticipated to experience moderate to minimal effects from strong winds.

The forecast track indicates that Verbena passed through the Caraga Region from Monday afternoon until early evening, and is expected to traverse the Visayas region and northern Palawan from Monday night through Tuesday night. The weather system is projected to exit over the West Philippine Sea by Wednesday morning, November 26.

Following this, Verbena is predicted to turn westward, pass near the northern Kalayaan Islands, and leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday, November 27.

Residents of Cebu are likely to experience rainfall, gusty winds, and higher sea waves due to the tropical depression moving through Visayas on Tuesday. Many provinces in the Visayas may encounter scattered to heavy rainfall resulting from the combined effects of Verbena and the northeast monsoon, which may lead to possible flooding or landslides.

PAGASA has urged communities across the affected regions to prepare for heavy rains and sudden gusts of wind that could generate significant sea swells.

Even areas not directly under the Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 in Cebu province should remain vigilant, as they may still be subjected to showers and strong storms, particularly along coastal and elevated locations.
